I guess it was a good book?
I understand it is a classic, and I did have it on my to-read list for quite some time. However, it did not live up to my expectations. A lot of children's books can be read by adults because of their deeper, underlying themes, the realistic portrayal of life - I guess, some of that can be said of [b:Watership Down|76620|Watership Down (Watership Down, #1)|Richard Adams|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1405136931s/76620.jpg|1357456] as well. The plot was good, the language too. The rest, boring.
The book failed to engross me, and it took me way too much time to finish it. My biggest problem was with the portrayal of the females - dig, be scared and have kittens. But whatever, it is a very old book. Hard to think that this was how the author wanted his daughter to come to terms with her gender.
There was too much description, and too much of botany lessons in the narration, and the story dragged around for too long.
To summarize, as I said. It was Ok. Not what you expect from a book that has been everybody's favourite for over thirty years.

Brillant book! I finished it and could easily have read another 100 pages, I kept wanting to know what happened to Hazel and his friends and I think the final scene dealt with death is such a beautiful way I was blown away. The whole book is this powerful build up towards the final few chapters that you literally can't put it down, what happens next?!? Next time I read this book I'll probably listen to it on audio so I can learn how to pronounce everyone's name ;) This will be a book I read again and again no doubt.

A thrilling adventure story, it's not hard to see how this has become a classic in the last 100 years. It is enjoyable and full of thrills. I cried at parts - Loved it

Maybe I'm uncultured and have terrible taste in literature, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll go back and finish it later, but I was hoping for an engaging read and I just couldn't connect with the characters or care that much about the plot, even 18% of the way into the novel.
