A real disappointment. I once enjoyed Philippa Gregory books. This is the second one in a row that just hasn't hit the right notes with me.

Altough I did enjoy learning about the experiences of Mary Queen of Scots, I defintely did not think this book was as good as Gregory's other books about Tudor England. I was somewhat disappointed, as this story did not captivate me like the others did.

I like reading about women in different times, and I did like learning some details about Mary Queen of Scots and the Elizabethan times. However, I found this book really slow and hard to engage with. First, it was written in first-person present, which I thought made the narrative choppy and detached. Second, for me knowing how it ends made it less of a page-turner. Last, the whole book takes place while she's imprisoned, so it's a lot of repetitive moaning about her situation. This author's other books must be more compelling or she wouldn't be so popular.

Not as good as The Other Boleyn Girl, but definitely entertaining to read. Especially if you don't know much about the historical background.

This is probably one of my favourite of the series. I really enjoyed this series as a whole and I like how we have spanned across multiple generations and the knock on effect. The characters were really different and interesting. Each one had strong character elements, that were very different from each other but you could see the points from each of them.

I enjoyed "The Boleyn Inheritance" a lot more. Hard to care about any of these characters.

I always do this with her books. I get it from the library, and consider just dropping it back in the book return and moving on to another one. It's historical fiction, so I'll be bored. Right? Screw the fact that I've enjoyed the other books of hers that I've read. Of course I'll be broed.

I will never learn.

I don't know if it's a sign of good writing or bad writing that I had a hard time sympathizing even 80% with each of the three focus characters. At different times, I felt for each of them. Even Bess, which I didn't believe I would. But each of them also made me want to bitchslap their mothers.

An enjoyable look into a queen whose name I knew vaguely, but otherwise didn't know practically anything about. I would like to read something historically accurate about her now, but after trying to look into Anne Boleyn and reading horribly dry and boring nonfiction, I don't know that it will happen.

Interesting.
