I knew going into this book that it was multiple view points, but it was very hard for me to follow. I think it had to do with the format (reading it on my kindle). I think if I had read this paperback I would of been able to enjoy the story more.

This book is well written with incredibly developed story lines for each character. I like how true characters are woven in with fictional characters but it was often hard to read between the different view points and flashbacks.

Book of the Month: April 2020
PopSugar 2019 reading challenge #18

This book is so late 1920s Paris that [a:Ernest Hemingway|1455|Ernest Hemingway|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1654446435p2/1455.jpg] made an appearance. If you love historic settings, the accuracy of precisely chosen street names and locations, as well as real-world figures popping into your story -- this is the book for you. Honestly, it has a gorgeous setting.

We follow four main characters throughout one day in Paris, 1927, and at first we think these are just random events. In some cases, the day starts off boring, even. But eventually all four characters are woven together and interconnect and come together.

It reads a little slow at first, but picks up the pace as you get closer to the end. I would call it "literary fiction" before anything else, but also would highly recommend it for those who love books set in Paris or those who truly love post-war fiction.

A fast passed novel that elegantly begins to intertwine the main characters. They orbit each other and encounter the same people, without ever interacting. The ended was unexpected and not entirely satisfactory, in just the right way. The streets of Paris always help me fall in love with a story.

This book took me over half of it to actually get interested in what was happening, but once I got hooked- I was hooked. The ending actually caused me to laugh out loud, such a crazy way for it to wrap!

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this literary fiction set in the 1920’s in Paris. I especially appreciated how the four main characters’ stories slowly intertwined with each other as well as with characters such as Proust, Josephine Baker, and Ravel. It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but once I did, I was hooked.

Honestly, the synopsis of this book doesn’t do it justice. The story is so much more than that. Read it, you’ll understand.

I felt that it was a bit slow paced at first, but then it sped up quickly. The story is told over the course of one day, making it quite unusual to me. I liked it though. This novel felt very different, with short chapters, multiple characters to follow, with different pasts to catch up.

Then, just as the pace starts to pick up, and you start to understand the different characters better, the ending happens. Sudden and shocking, it will for sure captivates you.

I liked this book so much. When I first read about it a few months before it’s release date, I was so impatient about it. I don’t know what it was, I was just so intrigued by it. This novel was so different from was I’m used to read, yet so beautifully written, I fell in love with it.

If you are a historical fiction fan (or even if you’re not!!) I would recommend this book to you in a heartbeat.

3.5 - love short chapters in a book & characters that cross. Open-ended ending to the book which I have a love/hate relationship with. Overall a solid read
