A beautifully written memoir. Please don't read thinking this will be a purely funny book. But thank you for the ending Hannah it was perfect.

Ultimately, this book much like the show Nanette makes me feel both safe, heard and seen. Ten Steps to Nanette demonstrates the importance of telling your story and acceptance..

Hannah Gadsby is so goddamn smart. The sections where she breaks down some of how she put together the show Nanette were fascinating and highlighted how much incredible work and thought and deep understanding and craft went into that work. As well as how aware she was of the impact of the traumatic content on the audience and on herself. The sections on her early life and early adulthood were also engrossing. I found it both fascinating to glimpse how she experienced the world and so sad to watch how the world chewed her up and stomped on her.

With memoirs I usually try to get the audiobook if I can, but I was lucky to get a hard copy early and didn’t want to wait for the audiobook to be available. I did often “hearl the story in her voice, but I’m still curious what spins she put in as she read and I’d recommend getting that version.
