One of the classics!
What I liked:
Basically what I got out of this book was exactly what was advertised. It was very fun to see the dynamic between Sherlock and Watson, and while some readers may not enjoy some of the early chapters due to "flowery language" I definitely thought the descriptions were great.
It was a real treat to have Sherlock unravel the mystery bit by bit and then go over it all again at the end, and there were certainly some points as a reader where I felt like I would certainly have to wait for Sherlock to explain it to me before I would truly understand.
At one point there is a trick and I think Doyle pulled it off wonderfully. I always love a book that takes me by surprise.
What I didn't like:
Hard to write about what let me down in this book without spoilers but I will just say that some things didn't leave me completely satisfied or else seemed like a bit too much of a stretch, though if you're willing to suspend your disbelief just a *bit* it does all snap neatly into place so I cannot fault it too much for this latter point.
In some ways, the book is a product of its time and this does come out with the female characters.
Overall, though I did enjoy reading it, I am not jumping to move on to the next Sherlock read.

Finally. I have read this classic tale. It is a mystery well laid out and providing a welcome introduction to Holmes’s and Watson. Fun story, replete with mystery and suspense.

This is my second time reading this fantastic story. The first time I read it was in 2001. I was thinking of picking up to read The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz. But then I thought, "What was the story about the hound? How was it set track upon the victim by Stapleton?" Essentially, I wanted to refresh my memory with finer details. It fulfilled my desire with great joy!

This is definitely one of the better Sherlock Holmes books. I enjoyed the characters very much in this one. Sherlock did a fascinating breakdown of the solution. I wouldn't have wanted to meet that hound on a dark night on the moor though.
It’s cool that this is the most famous Holmes story, because it really captures the imagination. I remember reading it in school and knowing that Sherlock stuck to reality, so how could this beast be explained?
Upon re-reading 25 years later, eh, it’s not the strongest, plot-wise, and could arguably be 3 stars for me. But again, it’s a good intro to the world of Holmes, and holds up perfectly fine by itself.
