Absolute classic. Apart from the phrenology guy who really is only in a few scenes at the beginning of the book, this one manages to mostly steer clear of racist ideas as a main part of the plot (unlike sign of four & other ACDs). A highlight: Watson bitches privately in his diary about Holmes’ bad taste in art, Holmes later brings up this argument *in front of their client* bc he can never let anything go (they are so married). Spooky energy, solvable mystery.

It was fun read, and a great introduction to the Sherlock Holmes Novels.

classic of course! My first reading experience of Sherlock and I enjoyed! I do think my experience was hindered by the fact I just kept thinking of Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock (because THAT is a fantastic version of this story), but I enjoyed it nonetheless and it's nice to see how it was written and placed within its original time period.
