Read it only to have a new appreciation of the Sisphyian task the scriptwriters had of turning this source material into an oscar winning film. This was mesmerizingly bad. Truly awful. I especially liked in when they end up playing chess with cannibals in the South Pacific. Stereotype-tastic!

the adventures forrest enbarks on are improbable and thus hard to really believe (something that is acknowledged in the book itself funnily enough), and the language may be vulgar and offensive at times, but it's what makes this book heartfelt and its characters charming in their own unique way.

Một trong số ít những quyển mà mình khuyên nên xem phim. Có một sự cố chấp, dù mình biết có bộ phim hay cùng tên nhưng nhất định đọc sách trước.
Quyển này không có nhiều từ mới, nhưng lại là lời kể của một người có IQ thấp, nên sai chính tả rất nhiều -> đọc hơi mất thời gian để luận.
Cách kể cũng rời rạc, rất khó theo dõi, nên nói thật phim làm tốt hơn trong việc xây dựng nhân vật. Nhân vật Forrest Gump khá giống với nguyên tác (90%) nhưng 2 nhân vật Jenny và Lieutenant Dan đều có cá tính rõ nét hơn. Nhất là Dan, Forrest k chỉ cứu mạng ông, mà còn đem đến cho ông một cuộc đời có ý nghĩa (cứ k phải cứ lăn ra chết tại mặt trận mà k vì ý nghĩa gì.
Có 1 điều mình phân vân là k biết nên thích cái kết nào hơn. Cái kết của phim trọn vẹn cho nhân vật Forrest hơn. Nhưng cái kết của truyện mình thấy ý nghĩa hơn. Jenny yêu Forrest và muốn kết hôn, sinh con trong khi Forrest còn mải mê với những thứ vô nghĩa, nên cô bỏ đi, tự mình nuôi con và rồi kết hôn với 1 người khác, cả đời Forrest cũng k có được Jenny. Đây cũng là một bài học cuộc sống truyện đem lại.

Is the film better than the book this time?
My answer is yes! I with the book I didn't have any connection with Forrest like I do when I watch the film! I got annoyed by Forrest a couple of times while reading it.. I also think that there's something with the writing that didn't really stick with me.
I can see that this book has a lot of humour and it's meant to make you laugh but also to teach you stuff, but I didn't really laugh..
I had more connection with a monkey than with the main character.. that says something doesn't it?
I'm so happy that there's a film made of this book because it tells the story in pictures with I think it's the right way to tell this specific story!
If you are wondering if you should read the book before watching the film, just skipping the book and watch the film you will get a better storytelling (;
