*Listened to audio; probably better to read book because of pacing

*The book started out slowly. I continued only because it's on the Virginia's Readers' Choice list (middle school '13-'14). I became interested in the last few chapters.

*I may continue the trilogy, but I'm not rushing out to get book 2.

I'd heard this book compared to The Thief, by Megan Whalen Turner, which is the start of my favorite series of all time, so I was excited to read it. Now that I'm done, I can definitely see where the comparison comes in. It's not as good as the Thief (is anything?), but it has a similar feel. The only problem is that there's a rather important development near the end of the book that was so clumsily written that it took me out of the story. Anyhow, I'm interested to see how the trilogy plays out.

I don’t remember the last time I had this much fun reading. The best part about this book is its protagonist: Sage is funny, smart, and charming, making his narrative voice very enjoyable to read. The plot twist at the end doesn’t hurt, either.

I loved this book. Very nice voice and fast action. A sarcastic but sympathetic character and a twisty plot. A great read.

A cute middle-grade book, albeit fairly obvious with the ending. I enjoyed it, though!
