Well. That was disappointing.

When I first spotted this book two summers ago, the cover lured me in, enticing me with thoughts of Pina Coladas and illicit affairs. I finally indulged my inner fantasist and picked this up, looking forward to a short 288 pages of wanton women and sexy times. I was in for a bit of a shock, but not in a good way.

The story takes a very long time to build, and when we finally get somewhere, I was left feeling underwhelmed. I struggled with this read, often wanting to DNF it, but ultimately trudging through it to see how it was going to end, and hoping for a grand finale that never came.

Taut and physical. Life lived through the body - not just the writing about sex but food, sleep, swimming. It's tangible and present. A great summer read.

Got this book for free and it wasn't worth that. What horrible characters--well written I guess because I hated the main character--she slept with a 17 year old. Just NO.

A horrible story about horrible people. Jenn and her husband Greg are joined by his daughter (her step-daughter) Emma and Emma's 17 year old boyfriend Nathan. Jenn is immediately sexually drawn to the boyfriend and embarks on charged relationship with him. The reader is given no real reason that would indicate why Jenn would suddenly throw caution to the wind and endanger her marriage and family with this sudden obsession, or why Nathan, a 17 year old boy, would be interested in her. I think it might appeal to fans of Girl on a Train/The Widow/Gone Girl, and it is a fast read. Extra star for a rather clever ending that somewhat redeemed it for me.

Very disappointed with this book and I was expecting way more. At first Jenn and Nathan's interactions were enticing, but they quickly became weird and creepy. Nathan turned out to be a really uncomfortable character. I kept reading thinking the book would change my mind, but sadly a book I was really excited to read this summer was probably the most disappointing book I read.
