I loved it. I loved the story, loved the characters’ voices. Is this supposed to be an unlikable female protagonist? Because I like her. She’s not aspirational but I have empathy for her and I want her to be ok. The premise of the book would normally stress me out but the humor kept it enjoyable for me. The interjections Greta says out loud while transcribing felt funny and real and like a thing I would do in her position. I don’t think it should be a movie but I do think Greta Gerwig should direct it. Not just because she shares a name with the protagonist but that’s a pretty cute coincidence.

Why is this book such a big deal? The characters were too unlikeable to have any sympathy toward them. Only characters I liked were the dogs and the sex therapist.

The narrator is excellently written and funny as hell. While this book didn't knock my socks off, the premise, the cast of characters, Greta's way of going about her life -- it's all so charming, dark, and engaging -- this book has quickly become one of my favorites, and will probably be one of the "comfort books". One potential reason why I love it so much might be because I had it audiobook format, and the cast of readers did an amazing job.
