This is one of my comfort movies (don’t ask me why, all of the characters are terrible yet lovable) so I figured I’d give the book a chance! I think I prefer the movie…there’s nothing wrong with the book, but it’s easier to hate the characters less when you’re watching them. I appreciate how well the movie adapted the book after reading this, so I won’t feel bad for loving the movie. I also think I struggle with this narrator, but maybe that’s the writing’s fault and not hers.
Graphic: Infidelity
Moderate: Body shaming

I have mixed feelings about this book. To say "I enjoyed it" doesn't feel right, but I definitely was intrigued by the story.
On the night of Rachel's 30th birthday, she has too much to drink, and ends up in bed with her best friend Darcy's fiance, Dexter. To complicate matters more, Rachel is Darcy's maid of honor. Now she must decide: Should she be honest, or keep this a secret? Was this a one night stand, or are real feelings involved? Should she break it off, or continue the affair?
The novel is from Rachel's point of view, so when she describes people and events, they have her bias attached. In the sequel to this book, it's from Darcy's point of view, and I'd be interested to read that one.
I found myself wondering throughout the book if Rachel was trying to justify her actions to herself by making Darcy seem worse than she is. Either way, they have a toxic relationship.
The whole cast of characters is unlikable, and I found myself not rooting for anyone in the situation (except for two more minor characters, Hillary and Ethan). Also, there was some suspension of disbelief that needed to happen towards the end of the book.
Even though I didn't like any of the characters, and their toxic relationships with each other bothered me, I still wanted to find out what happened. The story piqued my curiosity.
Overall, I didn't love the mess that they got into, but I was intrigued on how they would navigate their way out of it.
