I learned so much from this book. By turns chilling and fiercely inspiring, the sense of Hong Kong's community permeates every bit of the story. I wouldn't call it a hopeful story, in that it's very pragmatic about what has happened, and likely will happen, as China continues to chip away at the city's autonomy. But it does such an amazing job of painting the resistance and frustrations of people trapped between systems and just trying to live their lives, that it does have a heartening effect overall. I also highly recommend the audiobook!
