emotional funny informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

It was very interesting to hear the similarities of many famous musicians. And it also makes me want to be friends with Dave Grohl even more than I did before.

I am a big fan of Dave Grohl and of the Foo Fighters so when I heard his mum was righting a book it was a must read for me. This book a series of interviews of Mothers who raised rockstars. It is all about the troubles they had and the truimphs when their children made it and became the muscial artists they set out to become.

DID NOT FINISH

Probably would be 4 stars if I finished it. I jumped around to read about artists I liked and may go back to it another day. I'm a sucker for celebrity bios but the perspective of a rock mom was a fresh take.

This was an extremely interesting book and I absolutely adored it, especially the few parts where Virginia Grohl's personality seemed to shine through the pages. I recommend this book for anyone but especially to any mom. If you're a parent or might become one someday, please read the very last vignette, entitled "What's a Mother To Do?" It made me love the book even more hearing get advice to parents as an educator and a mom of a kid who was difficult to educate.
Besides the parental aspect, the stories are funny and very interesting. She makes sure to cover not just rock music stars but other types of music. She covers her own story of raising Dave Grohl, one of the more influential musicians of the past 25 years, and she covers both sides - the joy and the heartbreak. Basically if this book sounds interesting to you, please read it. You'll notice she's a first time author and the book is a bit imperfect but you will never regret reading it.
I do want to note for those who read my reviews for the family friendly info that there is some brief but moderate-type swearing in here, generally as quotes.

The stories were very surface-level; some interesting tidbits here and there but no depth (or drama) to any of the interviews. A quick, light read.

Great book about moms who raised artists. I loved the variety of moms that were featured from Michael Stipe's mom to Josh Groban's. Every mom had the similarity of nurturing their kids' need to be a musician.

I hardly ever leave a book unfinished, but i did with this one. Her heart is in the right place, and I love the concept--the execution just didn't work for me. I didn't connect to it.
