The book was slow and boring for the first parts. The last parts start picking up the pace and really tie the story together. I was very uncomfortable with the graphic animal abuse, I think a TW is necessary because the scene is too graphic and violent. This book suffers from r/menwrittingwomen in the way that women have little to no characterization, even fewer lines, or are used as a textbook description of hysteria. Only men enjoy the privilege of being written as deep and being constructed as real characters.

As a classic in literature, it must be read, however I do not think I will read more books by the author. The writting is very good, and the subjects are complex, however, it has a lot of filler and women are either caricatures of hysterics or have paper thin personalities

Although it was quite complex and multilayered I felt that it could've been shorter. Since it was incredibly long it was not as impactful as I hoped. Also I thought that the ending was just weird. After so much darkness and hopelessness
all is resolved with the power of love? What was that? Also the misogyny was quite awful especially during the part before the confession scene

Dostoyevsky's writing, or at least the translation of it, is something I have to actively get my head in to. A lot of people described this book as "existential", and I think it's an accurate description. It wonderfully and hauntingly presents you the psyche of Raskolnikov when he takes control of his destiny in the worst possible way.

Existentialism posits that a person is solely responsible and in control of his actions and destiny. A thought, I think, perfectly summarized by the following quote:

To go wrong in one's own way is better than to go right in someone else's.

The writing is very... of its time. However, I enjoyed how guilt and morality is presented in such a thought-provoking way. Granted, I read this for a philosophy class, and I certainly have more to say about it philosophically. But in the literary sense, it's a good murder story told from the perspective of the murderer if you're okay with working through big chunks of text.
