I really enjoyed this story. It dealt with some difficult topics, but it did so in a graceful manner.
Content: clean- some violence, references to sexual assault

It’s too sad. I have so many other books to read.

Two stories in one that leads to one story magnificently written that kept me reading … it’s not easy for me to take interest to two stories at the same time to actually follow each one … about 30 percent into the book it begins making sense and had me hooked that I couldn’t put the book down till I finished it . Understanding history has become an interest to me even when factual points of history is melded into a fictional story.

I enjoyed the premise and tangled story, but not the style of writing.
Everything felt overqualified. It was almost like the focus was to justify and to prove things that weren’t important to the overall story.
The descriptive language was also… off. Too much where just a few words would have conveyed far more. Very little during the few points more was truly needed. Some strange choices, as well.
It wasn’t life as it is, but life as a low-key daydream of a modern day fairytale.
