This is the second book in LKH's Merry Gentry series that lacks a definitive plot.

"Merry and her Merry men" (*rolls eyes*) have moved into Maeve's guesthouse in a mutually beneficial arrangement that provides continuous protection for the now pregnant Maeve from Tanaris (Seelie King), and roomier living arrangements for Merry and . . . her Merry men.

Weird shit has been happening since they defeated the Nameless--the collection of wild fairy magic that Tanaris set on them in book 2.

Rhys and Doyle regained powers they had thought lost forever, and everyone else gained powers they had never had. Merry herself starts dreaming of the goddess and waking up with long lost Fae relics in her bed.

Long long Seelie Fae relics . . .

Eese a problemmmmm.

They're also preparing for trip to the sithen (fairy mound in which the Fae live) to visit not only the Unseelie, but the Goblins and the Seelie as well.

This is a 400 page book and they don't even begin the journey to the sithen until just past the midway point. That's 200 pages of filler, people. Necessary filler, perhaps, but filler nonetheless.

And even after they hit the road, there's still not a definitive plot.

A couple of chapters later, there's yet another assassination attempt on Merry, and that grows (and grows) into a multifaceted plot (plot as in "scheme," not plot as in point of book) to not only take out Merry, but perhaps Andais (Unseelie Queen) as well.

Ultimately, the conspirators are unmasked and executed, Merry gains MORE Merry men, and Andais's sanity is more questionable than ever.

They have yet to make it to the Seelie court, Cel is only halfway into his punishment, and Merry still isn't pregnant.

It's been years since I read this series, but I have to believe it gets better, or why would I have bothered rereading it the first time? But so far . . . two books that are essentially filler is two books too many. Hmph.

DNF. This series wrote itself into the ground in 3 whole books. Poof.

~*~Book Description~*~

My aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness, is no longer distracted by her usual sadistic hobbies. Her obsession has turned unwaveringly to me. The mission to get me pregnant and beat my cousin Prince Cel to the crown is taking longer than expected. Even though I spend each night with the Queen’s Ravens, my immortal guards, no child has come of our decadent pleasures. But something else is happening. My magic courses through me uncontrollably. And as I lock my half-mortal body with their full-Sidhe blooded ones, the power surges like never before.

It all began with the chalice. I dreamed of it, and it appeared, cool and hard, beside me when I awoke. My guards know the ancient relic well—its disappearance ages ago stripped them of their vital powers. But it is here with us now. My touch resonates with its force, and they’re consumed with it, their Sidhe essences lit up by it. But even as they cherish me for this unexpected gift, there are those who loathe me for it. Me, a mongrel, only half fey and part mortal. The Unseelie court has suffered for so long, and there are some who would not have it weakened further by an impure queen. My enemies grow in number every day. But they do not know what I am capable of. Nor, for that matter, do I….

In Seduced by Moonlight, Laurell K. Hamilton brings the dark, erotic reign of the immortal fey to a startling new depth. Full of sensuality and the consuming anticipation of latent powers unleashed, this world of gods, shapeshifters, and immortal souls is unveiled in all of its supreme magnificence and its treacherous deceits.

~*~My Review~*~

Man, what a feast for paranormal lovers. Princess Meredith is seriously pretty bad ass, and for anyone to think otherwise is just dumb.

I love the idea that is no longer a mere-mortal.....hmm....wonder if the rumors are true!?! Seems so to me, but I think we all figured that was going to come to a head eventually anyway...right....right?

So, in Seduced by Midnight...we had lots of little power trips coming along, didn't we? Nicca, bless his little heart got a boost, as well as the yummy Frost...oh and of course the mysterious Doyle....can't forget the "tiny" demi-fey, Sage....poor poor exiled Maeve Reed, also got her powers back....hmmm...anyone else?? Oh yea, Bartinthus....oops, I forgot Kitto. I think that's all...oh this was within a few days! LOL

So Meredith is slightly possessed with the powers of Danu....hence the ability to bring sidhe into their powers and/or bring their powers back.

It was kind of a power trip...LOL...totally pun intended!

Merry and her men head back to Unseelie court for a few days full of events. Well the book ended only after day 1. And a mighty busy day that was! Which included, but not limited too, an additional handful of men to which she needs to bed (including Sholto!), a duel to the death, a blood rage spell on the Queen to which she slaughters most the guard, a wet reunion with Bartinthus (hehe), an assassination attempt on Merry, and even some possession tricks.

Very intense and in depth book. I may need to go back and re-read it to really get what the hell happened, lol!

Sex...filler...sex...filler...sex...DUEL...sex...end.

This was a let down from the other two stories in the series. In the two previous books there was actual plot. This one is just a lot of explaining about the laws of the Faerie Kind and then lots of sex but nothing else. I kept turning the pages waiting for forward story movement. And there was nothing. And Merry's life arc is coming perilously close to Anita's as she takes more people under her wing each book and gains bright new and shiny powers each book.

Fine we know the Fey are very open about sex. I don't care about sex. Let everyone have sex! Just also let there be some kind of story that makes it worth my while. Where's Cel? Isn't Merry a detective? Why doesn't she solve cases? There was so much good set up in the previous books that this one sadly wastes.

Why did I wait?

I started out with the Anita Blake series and I have loved it through every novel, the newest being Serpentine. I’d put off reading the Merry Gentry series. I’m not quite sure why, other than the fact that I was so dedicated to Anita and all her gang. I’m now hooked on Merry. Can’t wait to read the others in the series!

A massively trashy read. Not well written, weird plot timing/building. Read like a season of power rangers: Everyone gets newer and cooler powers, but over all nothing really happens.

There was many points where I have to laugh, because Merry's power accumulating magic vagina is bordering on just plain silly.
SpoilerIt's actually how everyone new powers are being bestowed.

This series has held enough of my interest to try the next book, but if Hamilton doesn't rein in the pure ridiculousness the next book might be the end for me.

This book as well as the previous ones are not for the faint of heart, but if you want a trashy faerie smut fest that could be a dream or a worst nightmare, this is your series.

The third book in the Merry series.

And Merry's troubles continue, but she is also adding men to her bed! wooo hooo!

April 14th, 2005, second read
Needed to re-read this before the next book came out...almost got it done in time --

And dang it was just as good the second time around.
