This was so good! I was at the edge of my seat the entire time, and the ending, what a twist! This book's now on my favorite Poirot stories list :----)

Not my absolute favourite Hercule Poirot - but certainly far from my least favourite.

The female characters that are built out a little more are a lot of fun, but a bunch of the men all just sorta blurred together for me. There were a number of twists that were decent but didn’t feel like they had as much payoff as they could have.

Overall, a solid entry to Hercule Poirot, not one I’m gonna be raving about, but one I was glad to read!

I’ve to confess that I’m a very big fan of Agatha Christie’s work, and Poirot is my favorite detective of hers, therefore the odds are always in her favor when it comes to liking one of her novels with the Belgian detective as its main character; so no surprises here, I liked this new installment.
As always Agatha Christie is a master of confusing the reader, keeping the culprit and their motives obscured until that extravagant man that is Poirot gifts us with an explanation. While in other novels I may be able to narrow down the culprit to at least a couple of characters by the end of it, in “Peril at end house” I couldn’t until the solution was revealed; and that’s wonderful. What a misleading story and, as Poirot said to himself, how blind I was! This story kept me formulating all kind of crazy hypothesis when the solution was more “simple”, I guess in the end I’m more of a Hastings than a Poirot.
Another thing I want to highlight from this novel is the fact that the case surrounds various murders attempts, and not a murder, a robbery or a disappearance, as the readers of Agatha Christie are used to. This gives the story another dimension, because the victim can participate in the development of it, and because there is a sense of dread and absolute need of a resolution before the tragedy occurs.
To finish I also want to point that I’ve liked the constant mention of drug addiction and how the character that is the addict doesn’t get demonized, presented as a corrupted creature and is revealed as the murder because of her condition. At least is my perception that novels of Agatha Christie’s time or older have no qualms about writing about murder while they ignore other taboo subjects such as drug addiction, unless they want to make it the cause of the murder as some kind of moral lesson. In this novel we have a drug addict that it’s a beautiful and good person, that is working hard to recover and that ultimately finds love despite of her condition; and I think that’s a nice addition to an already very interesting story.

i forgot about this one but i actually liked it a lot. the constant attempts really kept me on my toes... forever intrigued by poirot and i think hes so silly. and hastings is so funny. and nick is an interesting character. i did somewhat expect the murderer but the way that everything fell into place was very nice
