A poetic tale about masculinity, society and dreams. Beautifully written descriptions and interesting ideologies, The Sailor Who Fell From Grace is unlike any book I have read and definitely worth a read. It does face some difficult situations (I can only imagine how it was perceived at the time it was written) but this just makes the story feel more honest and it does not shy away from telling it as it is.
I would recommend going into this book blind. The version I have has a blurb which spoils the whole book, so I’d advise avoiding reading any information and just enjoy the journey.

A great dark philosophical tale. The boy's arc totally surprised me with its themes. They are mature and childish at the same time, making the story quite disturbing to read at some points. However, this darkness makes a convincing duo if you combine it with the other part of the book – the melancholic one. The sailor's character and his love story to the boy's mother are also well-written. They feel self contained, yet add up to the boy's journey of bad influence. The most wonderful part is the ending. It filled with suspension and calmness, making this part of the book manifestation of all its elements.
