Found myself rolling my eyes towards the end by the behaviour of the kids in particular. The story tries to act like it's deep but it's really not.

I genuinely enjoyed this book for its unique portrayal of the “innocent” child. I remember how intimidated I felt at how rounded and wise (if I can call it that) Noboru and his gang were. I certainly didn’t think like that as a young thirteen year old.

The novel allowed for a peek of the character’s mindsets. We learn of Ryuji’s relationship with the sea, Fusako’s drive and Noboru’s cunningness. I enjoyed that seeing as I assumed that this would all be through Noboru’s POV so we’ll have an unreliable young narrator in our hands.

The misunderstanding of how adults perceive children and vice versa is something that I’ve never read before and therefore makes this book a great one to read!
