The story was great honestly but I can't say it was exciting all the time.. after the first 15 chapters it felt a bit too slow at times. But it wasn't particularly a bad thing. I loved the concept and the characters. And the first few calls between them were the best!

I have to be careful when reading Penelope Ward’s books. If I am not careful I end up hating them because I find the themes repetitive and it gets annoying after a while. But the synopsis of this one drew me in right away and I knew I would HAVE to read it.

It’s funny. I will give it that. It’s adorable. It’s hot. It pretty much has everything you’d ask for in a contemporary romance. The character dynamic is through the roof. I LOVED the hospital scene. It just shows in that instant her fear to be seen does not come over what she felt for him, even at that time in the relationship.

I liked Rana. She’s relatable but also not a struggling student. She’s not rich by any means and needs a weird creepy roommate to make the rent payments. But she’s also not struggling to the point that she relies on her new relationship to spoil her. I liked that. (besides plane tickets but that’s an exception since the price of them). She’s realistic and also works an interesting job for an NA character like this one. Not in the food industry as a waitress, not in retail, nothing we see in these types of books. Belly dancer at a restaurant. It’s new and fresh. And also adds to the heat of the relationship. Landon is enjoyable on his own. He’s well off but worked for his money. And not the building a business ground up into an empire by age 26 (Christian Gray and all the other Gray types we see in NA novels like this one.) He owns a traveling food truck that sells specialty sandwiches. Pretty normal. He’s romantic and sexy and all that.

At first I was torn by how their romance progressed, but given they were childhood friends and already “knew” each other. It progressed a little fast but given how they feel for each other and their past I am okay with that. Maybe I’d be critical if it took too long.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I am happy I read it. I sped right through it because I was enjoying it so much!

Eu amo a Ward, sou louca por todos os livros dela que eu li. Mas esse é bem ruim.
Tinha tudo pra ser um livro excelente mas não deu.

Nem digo que vale a pena ler porque não vale.

I really enjoyed this read - it does deal with some serious issues but there are a lot of sweet and fun moments as well. I really loved Landon even if things did seem to move fast between these two. I loved the whole drunk dial thing and the reconnection between Rana and Landon and then everything that followed. Lilith was a stand out as well. Definitely enjoyed this and would recommend.

I liked the story behind the main story better. There was sooo much going on. Lots of drama thrown in unnecessarily.

DNF which is disappointing. Writing felt forced and the storyline felt cheap and juvenile. Bleh you win some you lose some.

Landon and Rana

As usual Penelope Ward did not disappoint with Drunk dial. This is a sweet and sexy friends to lovers book.

Rana drunk dials a Landon, a boy who her parents rented from while they were both 13. After yelling at Landon telling him how horrible she thought he was she hung up, only for Landon to call her back. Landon of course remembered who Alana Banana was.

They start texting back and forth and talking every night on the phone. Things take a turn when Landon asks Rana to send a picture of herself and in turn he sends her a picture of himself on the beach. This scares Rana off because she’s ashamed of her looks.

Awhile later Landon tells Rana he’s got a date that night. Rana gets jealous so decides to send a pretty racy photo to Landon, but hide her face. This hooks him. Their relationship turns more intimate.

Things progress and Rana ends up in Cali to visit him but is shocked he won’t have sex with her. She feels he’s hiding something. The day before she leaves Landon hits her with a deep secret she needs to think about if she wants to be with him.

Once Rana is back in her town she eventually tells Landon she’s okay with his past and there’s something she’s hiding too but she’s not ready to tell him. After he learns she’s okay he goes to her and did what he wanted to do the first time he laid eyes in her.

She eventually tells Landon her dark secrets about her past and Landon goes back to Cali. Landon relocates to be with her. And he is by her side through her hard times to come.

“He tasted like sugar and cigarettes, and all I wanted anymore in this life was to just keep doing this. I hadn’t realized exactly how starved I was, how badly I had needed the contact. But going from zero to Landon was like not eating for years only to be met with the most decadent of foods.”

“In many ways, our story was a lot like the Rubik’s Cube—colorful and complicated. It took years to work it out, but then suddenly like magic, on a random Sunday, everything all came together.”

I loved everything about this book!! The whole story was wonderful! From how they reconnected, the troubles they had to deal with from their traumatic teenage years, and just the whole relationship they had! Beautiful love story!!

Not your momma's Cinderella but Drunk Dial is definitely dreamy. A friendship that lingered. Emotions that took hold of a lost soul connected them. One drunken phone call changed the rest of their lives. Forget the glass slipper! Forget Sleeping Beauty!

Landon is a Prince Charming in his own right. It may not be the Disney kind but Drunk Dial certainly nails the happily ever after!
