This should have been all the things I love --- awkward botany professor? Yes. Rooftop poison garden (that the chickens can't get into, obvs)? Absolutely!!!
But I just didn't like it. The voyeurism was gross and I still don't get whether the book wanted me to find all the creepy creeping a charming personality trait or not. Either way, Nope.

I was very close to putting this one down due to the stalkerish, obsessive behaviour of the protagonist, but I'm glad I kept reading as I ended up rather enjoying it. I thought the mystery was well plotted, and while the other characters were somewhat lacking in depth, Professor Eustacia Rose was actually well written, if a bit cliché (autistic coded, brilliant but socially inept, she made me think of Molly the maid from Nita Prose's books). Bonus points for interesting facts about deadly plants.
