This story started off slow for me. I hadn't read the first of the series when I started this. However, the more I read, the more I wanted to read. The bratty and spoiled girls in this story manage to make you like them and hope they get their way. I love the hoodoo aspect of the story. That is the part that made the story unusual and fun to read. I would definitely like to read the next Magnolia League story.

I only found 3 typos, but I guess that comes from writing fast to meet deadlines.

Much better than its predecessor. The plot, characters, and world have been much more finely tuned. While still not *fabulous*, it's much better than I was expecting it to be. 3.5 stars.

I'm DNFing this one at 79 pages. I literally do not care about anything that's happening. Ugh what a waste of time.

Part 2 in the Magnolia League series and we pick-up with Alex trying to act like the perfect lady for her grandmother in order to fulfill her deal with Sina, the hoo doo woman, and save her mother from being trapped as a ghost. The book alternates between Alex and Hayes as viewpoints and we get more background on the formation of the league and the relationships of the four founding women. We learn that someone has conjured the "grey man" and he is set on Alex until she retrieves her mother's necklace from Hayes and he turns to her as a target. At the memorial service for Alex's mom, (at the 1 year mark) everything comes to a head and Alex is conned into being buried alive by Sina, who wants more power. She goes to the in-between where her mother tells her only one can return and she strikes a deal with the gray man to secure peace. Her friends she her and it seems all with be okay.

So, this was published in 2012 and it is now almost 2015 when I am reading it, so it doesn't seem likely that a third book will be forthcoming. The author wrote this one in tandem with a male friend, which explains the 2 "voices" (and many of the inconsistencies) I really didn't like this book - it seemed rushed or half-hearted at best. The story could have been so much more, but just never lived-up to its potential. Also there were just too many characters in the book for its own good and none were ever developed well enough. I wanted to know more about Sam and Julia - and why he transferred his affection to the Grandmother when Julia left. Or, why Doc kept doing magic for the League when they were obviously out of control and he could have gotten money in countless other ways. Maybe it's best that there isn't a final installment of this hot mess!

** Note ** This review will spoil the first book in this series.

At the end of The Magnolia League, Alex finds that her mother is trapped in the In Between and she’s certain that her grandmother is evil so she makes a bargin with Sina to save her mother and destroy the league, declaring a White Glove War.

I was a bit disappointed with this story because, all the things that let me down me in the first book were magnified in this book. Thaddeus seems to care more about a girl he just met a few days ago, one who is mistreating the sister he claims to love. Alex is well, a bit of a brat. Then, the adults in this story all act like children. The only redeeming characters in this book are Hayes and Madison (even though Madison’s relationship with Dex is a bit out of left field).

However, where the character lacked, the story somewhat made up for them. Alex is working with Sina to help free her mother, meanwhile a force known as the Gray Man is seeking to destroy Alex and anyone who gets in his way. The story wasn’t as suspenseful as it should have been even with all these elements. It’s written in two first person point of views and sometimes switches to third person - which can take a reader out of the flow of the story, making it seem scattered. However, like it’s predecessor, The White Glove was a quick and easy read; one of those books you’d take on a road trip, or to the beach.

Glad I didn't buy this. It's very different from the first book, and there were several times where i wanted to slap Hayes and Alex around a little bit. Writing definitely was the major issue for me.
