Collins has done it again, this was a great addition to the hunger games series. Hilariously heavy handed in foreshadowing haymitch's drinking problem. His life is much more tragic than I'd imagined and makes his fall from a relatively upbeat kid to a jaded cynic that much sadder

The action was compelling and the characters well-crafted and interesting. You really cared about wether they succeeded. Being a prequel, you know how it has to end, but that doesn’t stop you from being emotionally invested.

It’s hard to recapture the magic of the original. But this certainly adds nuance and is engaging the way through. There are a number surprises, and clever tie-ins to the original series.

It was impressive how Collins twisted elements around, like the reaping. And that Haymitch was in on the rebel cause since the jump. text
