And I thought the first four Hunger Games books were devestating. They absolutely have nothing on this. I fear for the movie, as I doubt it can truly capture the horror and heartbreak Haymitch endures. There is no teenage love story in this arena, just a boy trying to survive as literal children are slaughtered. That is a fact the earlier books and movies let slide a little, with the older protagonists who keep to themselves. But Haymitch's attachment to the younger competetors refuses to let you look away or romanticize the slaughter.

This book gave me chills while reading because it was so good. There is a lot of emotion, Haymitch has a great backstory worth your time. It gives you some background information for certain things such as why Haymitch calls Katniss sweetheart in her books. I would read 'The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes' before this book to make some of the scenes more clear so that you can understand it better. 5 stars easily.

Suzanne Collin’s is a genius! Every book she writes expands the world of Panem is such a spectacular way I’m convinced she’s had it planned all along.

I’m also convinced she’s read Crimson Rivers based on Haymitch’s Homecoming. I would hypothesize she is Bizarrestars but their writing styles are too different.

This book broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. Easily the most depressing thing I have ever read
