This book hit way too close to home right now with what's going on politically. It was an amazing read and I'm going to continue on with the Hunger Games series, but omfg. I had to put it down at times to do some deep breathing and recenter. I also teared up so hard during it and after.

It was okay, not as well-written as the others. Felt a lot like a rushed job with a lot of fan service. Collins is great with plots but the dialogue and pacing felt stiff and unrealistic.

This was literally so tragic, especially because you open this book knowing where Haymitch is ~25 years into the future. The cast is a wild assortment of people you know you'll probably have to mourn later and the story is careening towards a resolution you have already witnessed and it's still such a hard book to put down.
Also Haymitch's inner monologue is just delightful.

It's a great book about propagando and how far people in a rebellion are willing to go as the end justifies the means.
I have a specific reason I don't think it's 5 stars...

Snow is 58 and talks like he's still 18, he was so sophisticated during the OG trilogy, it just doesn't really make sense to me that he talks to Haymitch like a salty ex-bf about the Coveys, it felt out of character.
Another thing is how there's a bit of overexplanation, for example, Beetee explaining how his kid got reaped because they're punishing him through his kid, it's so obvious and easy to fill in the blanks, but I completely understand the decision to state the obvious by Suzanne, cause to this day people complain about Katniss ending up with kids, though it was so understandable what the reasoning was.
