This did NOT need so many song lyrics, especially not songs we’ve already seen multiple times in  previous books and especially not a FULL EIGHTEEN VERSE rendition of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven in the last chapter 💀

Apart from that I like Haymitch’s narration style, I find it fresh and easy to read. Loved the epilogue.
Ampert
’s death scene
(skeleton)
was the most disturbed I’ve ever felt reading a hunger games novel.

Oh and also - if I was in the hunger games and I escaped the bloodbath and found a backpack
full of supplies, bottled water, potatoes and ‘a dozen’ apples
I would be way more grateful than Haymitch was wtf

I loved that this was basically a big bowl of explanation for the first three books and gave the origins to phrases, trauma, and character’s relationships to each other. The epilogue was wonderful.

The only knowledge/expectation I had going in was the final kill in the games and the fact that Haymitch was going to lose everyone he cared about. Knowing he was going to lose everyone surprisingly made reading it a little easier, but not much. I expected them all to be already gone by the time he got back to 12, but what he experienced was much worse. The same goes for the tributes, I started getting on edge the more I had to wait for Maysilee’s death. She was a fantastic character, I loved her the way I loved Johanna. Wellies slow end was very sad, and Ampert’s made my jaw drop.
The final fight in the games was great. I’m sadly one of those people that enjoys the games themselves from an entertainment standpoint and that fight was tense and exciting. I enjoyed the new creatures we got, although nothing topped the wolf mutts from the first book.

The best in the series so far. Sunrise on the Reaping adds so much to the world of the Hunger Games. The lore is deep and the story is captivating and devastating.

Trigger warnings! Description of violence and death is very deep. Grief and depression. Drinking problems
