This book is so well written it almost makes the devastation bareable (not really though)

So I've been ugly crying for the past 10 minutes since I finished the book.

I thought the chills I was getting when I started this at work was due to the AC but nope, it was this book. If you're reading this for the nostalgia...sorry in advance.

I could feel that this story was going to wreck me and I guess I could anticipate the ending, but let's be real: 99% of the people coming to read this definitely read the original books first so this is not a surprise for anybody. So yes, we all knew it was going to be devastating, but I didn't know it was going to be to this extent.

The cameos of certain characters, the unexpected love I developed for Maysilee and other tributes, the symbolism, the references you'll recognize from the original trilogy...I loved all of it. Which made everything so much more devastating.

Why 4* then? you may ask. It's simple. I did not particularly care for Lenore Dove (she was fine, I just don't think we got to know a lot about her) and I think it took way too long to get to the games (we were at 50% and still didn't start). I know it's gonna hurt, just rip the band aid already.

I cried about 4-5 times but most of them were stray tears. Only the finale gave me a big blow and started to ugly cry, red eyes and all that and now I have to reapply my moisturizer 👍🏻

4.5*

It was good. Very cool to see Haymiches backstory and fill in the gaps between the books. The actual book itself is not nearly as good as the original trilogy, however I liked it better than Ballad.
