Suzanne has done it again. However bad I thought Haymitch’s story could be, oh how it was so much worse. Haymitch was such a loverboy, just like his boy Peeta. And Katniss was exactly like him, but luckier. Haymitch and his continuous flock, his promises, his family. Oh how he kept them all. Even when he lost them. After all, the snow may fall, but the sun also rises. 

“She’s not an easy person; she’s like me, Peeta always says. But she was smarter than me, or luckier. She’s the one who finally kept the sun from rising.”

I knew this would be hard. Seeing such a bright character turned into the Haymitch we all know and love. But this really was heartbreaking and darker than all the others. Showed more of the evil and torture the capital was willing to deal out for their ideas. Haymitch tried everything to go against those. And in return he lost everything. They gave him hope near enough to grasp and then let him feel it ripped from his fingers. All because he defied them. While I didn’t really connect with his character as much as Katniss, I felt his emotions much more strongly than hers. He really affected me. The end of this book was perfect and Suzanne Collin’s is so talented. It was so fun to be back in this world. These were some of the first books I ever read and so it was very Nostalgic. Overall I really loved this book so much and I will never look at Haymitch the same. I have a new respect for him that was never there before. I have thought about this book every day since I read it.

Haymitch. A hero. Before his time. Swept into the reaping and to the capitol and to the games and back to District 12. We know the ending. We know there is only one victor. Does that mean he is victorious or that victory was thrust upon him.

Haymitch. Your story deserved a spotlight. I’m so glad to know now. But I’ll never be the same. I love you like All Fire.
