Suzanne Collin’s is a genius! Every book she writes expands the world of Panem is such a spectacular way I’m convinced she’s had it planned all along.

I’m also convinced she’s read Crimson Rivers based on Haymitch’s Homecoming. I would hypothesize she is Bizarrestars but their writing styles are too different.

I kept seeing everyone talk about this one. I love Haymitch, and I needed an audiobook to listen to while I drove home, so it was like all the pieces aligned here for me, and it was so good. I will say Haymitch's story is so sad, and it's no wonder he is who we see in Katniss's story. It kind of makes me wonder where he went after her story ended because I'm struggling to remember. It's been over a decade since I read the original trilogy. It was again a nice step away from the romance world, and I can't wait to read another book in this world. I really loved learning about the other games, too, but I need Effie's book. I'm just curious about the capital, and it seems like she's capital, but also not fully into that world, and I think it would be interesting to see how she got to that point. Plus, just to see more of the capital life because everything has been through the district's eyes pretty much. Anyway, I can't wait to see the movie.

This book broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. Easily the most depressing thing I have ever read

A prequel to “The Hunger Games” Trilogy, we meet Victor Haymitch Abernathy before his fame. We read as the Capitol mold this hopeful teenager into a bitter, lonely man with regrets. It’s a somber read, centering on what a government is willing to do to keep its people under control, or punish them for stepping out of line. It made me want to read the trilogy again from cover to cover.

Years ago I watched a YouTube video that outline Haymitch’s Hunger Games and it was pretty close to this. My guess is that there was some sort of short story before? Regardless, was a gripping and sad read knowing where he ended up.
