✨Book Review✨

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

Wow. Just wow. I basically read this one in two sittings. We know what we’re getting into here, but damn, somehow it’s still SO brutal.

This one is weirdly satisfying because of what we learn about Haymitch’s games in Catching Fire and what we learn about Snow from TBOSAS. Collins expertly weaves these threads together in a testament to her skill as an author and storyteller. If this is it for the Hunger Games universe, I’m satisfied. She’s become an auto-read author for me. So I’m already looking forward to whatever she writes next!

Even though this one is mostly devastating, it is so full of hope and love and compassion and purpose and meaning-making and what connects us as humans. I don’t want to say too much, but this one is top-tier for me.

I think my final ranking goes:
  1. (Tied) Catching Fire & Sunrise on the Reaping
  2. The Hunger Games
  3. Mockingjay
  4. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

I’m a little sad to say goodbye to Panem and such a remarkable series. At least it’s fall now, which calls for some seasonal reading!
