TW: TERFs and their transphobic rhetoric, child abuse (past), mild gore
Representation: POC characters, trans and nb characters (written by trans author), lesbian and gay characters
Loved the found family in this so much! Be warned, though, the ending is a cliffhanger and a REAL suckerpunch.

Loved this book and the writing and story telling! Honestly I love anything about witches, especially with history thrown in or a little bit of an alternate history. Hated the cliffhanger, but hoping that it resolves itself in the next book! Definitely will read the new books.

Read the prologue (in case you skip them!) This prologue sets the story quite well, it was both an easy read and packed full of information. Even with the prologue to set the personalities, it took me many chapters to differentiate between the main characters. (I was lucky to get a little cheat sheet from a friend.)
The modern world was well incorporated into Witch life and coven history was integrated into the book without feeling lecture-y. The teen characters were written with a nice modern feel, in both dialog and technology skills. I did enjoy that personal dilemmas of our main character feels as large as they do in a day to day life. The story took its time to let us sit in the world and only halfway through does the real meat of the book get exposed.
Once the story tips it becomes very propulsive and I didn’t want to put it down! Though that driver did make the characters a bit one dimensional, that didn’t bother me while reading just when thinking about it later.
It ends on a very serious cliffhanger. I feel like the last chapter almost should have been a prologue of the next book. Though so many things are resolved they might have wanted to drive the next book. Either way, I am absolutely reading the next one!
I love the narrator, the accents are fantastic and I would have struggled with the pronunciation of many of the names without her saying them in my ears.
