I have not read much of Michael Connelly’s work, but if this is what it is like, I’m hooked. There was never a dull moment in this plot that was full of emotion, questions, and twists. Calexico Moore appears to have committed suicide and the LAPD wants to leave it at that. Of course, Bosch can tell something is off and his investigation leads him all the way back to Cal’s childhood “castle” where the resolution is completely unexpected by the reader.

Connelly's books are one of my guilty pleasures. But they truly are solidly written.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. The day-by-day format from tthe previous book is not there, but this is still as good, with a few interesting twists.

Really well paced and well laid out story. The trip to Mexico was a bit awkward at times, but the overall plot was solid. I enjoy the gritty integration of LA and the human interactions. I like that people both see Bocshe's attitude and aptitude as a strength and a weakness.
