This vastly improved near the end but was ultimately lacking some of the magic from the first one.

I really enjoyed the first in the series. I love Angel Crawford. She's scrappy and strong, and makes mistakes and owns them. She's loyal but not unquestioningly. She's the best thing about the series.
Book 2 gets into the nitty gritty of zombieism. What is it? How does it spread? The mythology of it all. I'm not sure I'm liking where it's leading.
Angel starts to accept what she can do as a zombie. She realizes as long as she gets enough to "eat" she'll be able to live a very long time. What can she do with all the potential time?
We also get to see more of her relationship with her dad. It's messy but it's really beautiful.
Overall, it's a good book in the series but I just don't like where the story is leading.

After finishing the first book in the White Trash Zombie series earlier this month I just had to jump straight into the second one. What can I say? This series is addictive because it's so much fun; it doesn't shy away from the inherent ridiculousness we often associate with zombie stories - especially those budget zombie movies that make us wonder how they ever got made in the first place - and yet Rowland fills her take on zombies with such endearing characters and tongue-in-cheek wit that it's impossible not to enjoy these novels even when they border on the bizarre.
Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues basically takes off immediately from where My Life as a White Trash Zombie left off. A couple of weeks have passed, but nothing more, and we see Angel still enjoying the new, better life she had to die to achieve. But hey, why get frustrated with being undead when you can just chow down on brains and carry on as normal?
Soon enough, however, it's clear that Angel's in for a rough ride. She's held up at gunpoint at work and barely anyone believes her, she meets her new boyfriend's uncle who turns out to have a huge stick up his ass, only made worse when she discovers her boyfriend will do pretty much anything he says; including pretending that the two of them aren't dating, and somewhere out there the person who's been chopping heads off zombies may still be after them.
And to top it all off, Angel only has a few weeks to study for and take her GED or she'll find herself in prison.
I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the first one, mainly because I've grown very fond of Angel and I was frustrated with all the crap she was being put through. Having said that, I did love that she didn't just lie down and take it; whenever someone called her a liar she put them straight, and whenever Marcus started acting like his uncle's pet she called him out on it. Angel doesn't take any shit, and I love that about her.
I still recommend this series, whether you're a hardened zombie fan or you're a newbie to the genre, and I can't wait to read the others!

I'm really enjoying snarky, red-neck princess, white-trash zombie, Angel. She's really trying hard to be a better person but life/death is being a bitch to her. Bit of a mystery here and figuring out who can she trust makes it hard to put the book down.
Definitely a fun, light read.

This is a light and enjoyable read that everyone into zombies and humor should pick up! I love Angels wit and she really grows in this installment as a stronger women. I had fun following her learning process into the zombie world, because she IS still learning and its more complex than it seemed in the first book.
I am loving this series! I think I'll probably read all five books, and I might read them all this month.
So good! They introduced a well-rounded gay character, yay. But Angel still needs female friends! She has acquaintances, yes, but no real female "friends." I was really hoping the bookstore chick would show up again... In any case, I couldn't put this down any more than I could the first one. I love the undercurrent of making your life better, no matter what shit's been thrown your way. And a mention of rape never being the victim's fault showed up again, with no reason besides a nice correlation. THANK YOU. Also, I LOVE Angel's growth from a person who clings to what is familiar, no matter how bad it may be for her, to someone who stands up for herself, demands respect- especially from her "boyfriend"-, and is clearly full of common sense and smarts when she puts her mind to it. I wanted to squeal at her standing up to Marcus, her boyfriend, for not believing her, taking her seriously, nor really *knowing* her. Angel is a fucking rad role model.
