Book 1: My Life As a White Trash Zombie Review ★★★★☆

3 stars. This definitely suffered from second book syndrome. There’s no humor or charm like in the first one and also, nothing of significance happens until like 60-70% of the way through and then things got really awesome. That’s the only reason this got the three stars. The last half of this was so worth the slog of the first. There was a lot of action and suspense and it had me glued to my kindle until the end.

I will say that Angel is still such a badass character even though she seemed to have a lot of temper tantrums here for some reason. I loved the way she stood up to Marcus and kept continuously putting her foot down about him dismissing her concerns and opinions. That was great. She’s a character that really demands respect and I adore her for it. She deserves a way better love interest than Marcus. He just treats her like a child and doesn’t listen to her and having to deal with their relationship wore on my nerves. I just don’t like him.

I will definitely still continue on with this series because I’m already pretty attached to Angel and her journey. She is going through some fantastic character development and I really wanna see her continue to grow and better herself.

I totally found my zombie niche…

⇝My Thoughts⇜

Between this series and IZombie (CW Show) I have found zombies that I can live with. Zombies that mindlessly eat are really not my thing. They give me nightmares…These zombies are still functioning members of society, with thoughts and desires of their own.
With plenty of intriguing mystery, good friends, and a splash of romance this second book was even better than the first, Angel is really coming into her own, with being a zombie; and surviving the hunger for brains.
My only qualm with this series is the covers…they always have her holding a cigarette in every one of them. I don't get it, because in this book she clearly states how she can't even smoke because her parasite; (what makes her a zombie) has to use up her brains quicker to combat what damage the cigarettes are doing to her body. It's silly, I don't think it makes her look cooler because she's holding a cigarette.
⇝Sex Factor⇜ None that is explicit, it's really not the focus of this book…even the romance is dialed down and takes a back seat to the mystery.

I left My Life as a White Trash Zombie wondering what could possibly give Angel the blues. She was getting cleaned up, had a good job and a new boyfriend. I just wanted her to be happy and couldn’t bear for anything to get her down.

Her world gets turned upside down when a body is stolen at gunpoint on her watch. But she isn’t going to fall back into the role of victim again. She is determined to clear her name and doesn’t mind getting dirty to do it. Angel also isn’t going to let anybody make decisions for her, including Marcus. He really disappointed me, especially when he threw her past back in her face.

I really enjoyed the heart of the book where Angel did the most growing. She felt like life was kicking her when she was down, and it kind of was. She refused to give up. I really loved watching her come into her own investigating the mystery of the twice dead zombie. She showed a lot of ingenuity. Being on the outs with Marcus, gave her more time to work on things with her dad. Angel offered her dad unconditional love on his bumpy road of recovery. I loved all of the their exchanges. They were genuine and real. No sugar coating at all. Mostly, I loved how the people around Angel let her know that they believed in her. *warm hugs*

Hold on to your brains! This mystery gets CRAZY. The detective work was awesome. I the WHO in my sights. The WHY made me tilt my head to the side and utter, “uhhh?”.

I can’t wait to wade through the apocalypse Diana Rowland is going to throw at Angel. I don’t doubt she can handle anything thrown her way.

There is nothing like a White Trash Zombie to give you some perspective and make you want to be a better person.
