Pretty good for the age range it's geared towards. Definitely a cult classic among the readers who read it back when they were the right age.

Never read this as a kid, somehow. It’s fascinating and I see how writing for kids - and writing fantasy - has changed.

A lovely adventure with lots of set up for future stories.

I enjoyed re-reading this. Despite the many times I've read this it's still a great read. I love Alanna and how strong she is. She doesn't let the fact that woman aren't allowed to be warriors stop her from her goal.

I love the Jon, Raoul, Gary and George. They are such good friends to her!

I already know that I won't like Roger but I won't go into much more detail about that right now lest I spoil the series.

I dislike how Alanna doesn't use her magic but can understand why she doesn't. She needs a reason to grow and her powers are great and scary.

I'm glad that she and Jonathan saved the Bahzir from the monster things whose name is escaping me at the moment.

Can't wait for Pounce to arrive!

I was a little less enthralled with the book this time around. Bad side effect of my writing I guess. Too critical. It was still a great read and I enjoyed 'Alan', Jon, Raoul and Gary. I did find Alanna to be a little less believable then previous times. I little too perfect some of the time. Jon and the others were still good. Definitely still a 4-5 star book. :)
