I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I was by the entire story Bradbury created in just 4 pages. I experienced emotion, cared about this world and its characters, and ultimately felt everything that a novel might make me feel. If he can do this in 4 pages, I can't wait to see what he does in his novels!

Sad, short story sort of about the cruelty of children, but mostly about the ways that our individual histories make it difficult (impossible?) to empathize with others.

Introduced this to my fifth graders. I am lucky to have such a job!

While there are some great stories in here, the preponderance of them is too much of Ray Bradbury's worst tendencies--thin characters, wasted non-drama, a romanticism with space and rockets that feels plain gooey. Combine the best of this book with the best of "R is for Rocket" and you have one tight collection of short stories.

I read this in 7th grade English class for a dual literature/art project. We had to read the story and then draw a picture depicting Margot's emotions. The poignancy of this one broke my heart into bits. I haven't read it again as an adult because I'm holding on to the way it affected me then.

I often find it hard to give high ratings to short stories because it is very hard to connect to characters and you don't get much of a taste of the writing style.
This is a miniature version of a heartbreak, it is a lovely plot, I think it would make a good novel, maybe? Something longer where I could get more attached to Margot and the other children. But this was good and I recommend it for the very short length that it is anyway!!
