I liked the concept of the painting and the philosophy surrounding the soul and sins. However, I found it pretty lack luster in plot. While I didn't expect a huge plot, there were times where I was bored.
Wilde's many thoughts about art and aestheticism were eye-opening, even if I couldn't fully agree. I grasp the significance of this novel but personally it wasn't for me.

Two stars have been removed for antisemitism, misogyny, and also just like the middle chunk of the book which was SO BORING. The only good parts are the parts where the characters are speaking to one another. Two stars remain for that. One star has been awarded because somehow I never realized this book is categorized as horror, and it is, at its heart, a horror novel.
