After reading and not falling in love with The Friend Zone, I was a bit hesitant to pick this book up. I loved Sloan as a character and wanted to hear more of her story, but I was a bit put off after the previous book. But I'm happy I decided to pick it up despite my worries!

Let me just start by talking about Jason. I'm not kidding when I say he's one of my favorite male leads I've ever seen in a book. I did not expect to like him as much as I did, but it's hard not to love him with the way he acted with and towards Sloan. He was sweet, caring, protective, and I loved how straight-forward he was with his intentions.

Their journey was also not what I had been expecting, but in a great way. I didn't really have many expectations to begin with, but I truly had so much fun following along with their relationship. They had their ups and downs, but it was a beautiful journey from start to finish of two people falling hard and fast for each other and navigating difficult life circumstances together.

That said, the writing wasn't my favorite. Some of it felt really cheesy, and again there was a lot of telling rather than showing. And I do wish we could've seen more of Sloan processing her grief. I understand that time has passed since the accident, and the point of this story was for Sloan to move past it and start living again, but I wanted to hear more about why she was starting to feel okay again and how she was working through things.

Even so, I would still recommend this book! This love story was so sweet and fun to read. I'm looking forward to reading more from Jimenez soon.

Despite my "no" answers above, I did enjoy this book (I tend not to finish books I'm not enjoying, so). There were some elements that kinda pissed me off but most of them got wrapped up nicely in the end. I still think Jason is a little too controlling/overbearing as a partner but I guess some people like that kind of thing. This was a fun read that probably shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Sloane and Jason, but I found myself really bothered by the Lola storyline throughout.
She was clearly exploited by her manager and record label while also being under the influence most of the time, but I just feel like it took a really long time to get an apology and I would have liked to see that situation wrapped up earlier than it was so the forgiveness could have felt less rushed.
. I love a story about second chances and I loved the respect that Jason had for Sloane throughout her movement through grief. All in all, it was all-around fine. I didn't love, didn't hate - firmly liked it and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an exploration of what it can look like for grief to become a part of your life, but not your whole life. I also freely admit that I'm a sucker for anything that comes with a playlist built in.
