The cover is what drew me into this book. This is a character-driven story about a genderqueer book conservator that feels trapped by her gender identity, her relationship with a man who wishes she was a man, and her artistic block, Throughout the book, Dawn tries to understand how to live in a world that doesn’t see her for who she truly is. She struggles a lot with different areas in her life like religion, family, daily life, art and feels unwelcome in queer spaces while at the same time has issues connecting with her straight peers. This could definitely be considered a coming of age story. Overall, I thought it was a great read and I’m glad I decided to pick it up!

I wanted to be interested in this, but it didn’t get a grip on me - and having just finished a different sad queer book, I wasn’t really in the mood to stick with it. Perhaps a better choice for the more literary fiction inclined reader? Maybe I’ll try it again someday, but now isn’t the right time.

Wow, this book has skyrocketed to the top of my list for 2023. I picked this up randomly at the library after reading the synopsis and I am so glad I did.

I so quickly was engulfed in Dawn’s character and their quest to try to answer difficult questions in an already messy world.

I don’t want to give away anything about this spectacular novel, but everyone should be reading this!

Loved the main character’s relationship to Judaism in this book! This form of gender queerness is not normally represented either. Very much enjoyed.

I think I anticipated more about book binding and was really excited for that aspect 😂
