I fully realize I’m in the minority in that I didn’t care for this play… I should have read or listened to the full book instead. It lacked the profoundness I was hoping for, possibly due to the shortened version.
Listening to the audio book felt like I was stuck on the phone with a distant relative who breathlessly tells me their life story when I simply asked how their day was. I will circle back to the original book someday and try again.

Joan Didion is my favorite writer. This production reminded me why.

The audiobook was extraordinary, really moving, like a poem.
A super short and super sad read.
“I love you more than even one more day”
“When I said you’re safe, I’m here, was that a lie or did you believe it?”

An interesting counterpart to The Year of Magical Thinking / Blue Nights - it’s been a while since I read either but I believe Didion is more open about Quintana’s condition and the timeline here than anywhere else.
