Slow to start, definitely meant to establish the world and conflict for the rest of the series. Enjoyed it, but not my favorite.

call me basic, the hype was real!!!! a fun read!!!!

i will say feyre is hard to understand as a character, there were some sliiiightly questionable moments of sexuality, the phrase “my bowels turned watery” was used at least three times, some plot constructions were way too convenient, and i have no concept of how much time passed (was it like 2 months or 2 years ???)

At the beginning of the story, Freyre is struggling to keep her family alive while also juggling self doubt and emotional baggage that comes from caring for her family. She seems like a really calculating character, that you want to root for and hope for her to find some form of happiness. But that also makes some of her later actions seem rather dumb, especially compared to how she is in the beginning of the novel.

Her romance with the Male Lead, Tamlin, is rather sweet. There are definitely some cultural differences that make some of the earlier interactions awkward. I definitely rolled my eyes at some of their later interactions (That might be more of a "me" problem). But overall they are a sweet couple that would probably do anything for each other, which is what we all want in a couple.

My major problem with the book is the last 3rd of the book. Without getting too much into spoilers, there are moments of tense and anguish that really puts our main character through hell. This puts the reader on edge, as you quietly wonder how Freyre is going to get through it. But then there are scenes that sort of throw the tone completely off, giving almost Wattpad vibes (Idk how else to describe it). I was literally either cringing or just rolling my eyes at certain scenes. Which sucks since there are really good moments at the end of the story but I get too distracted trying to recover from a previous scene. But the ending was satisfying, so I can kinda overlook the more cringey parts. I do plan to skip parts of this book, if I reread it again.

Overall, it's an interesting book and I am eager to read the next part of the series.
