I honestly wasn’t impressed by this book. If you’re looking for something that has a lot of common basic tropes crammed into a fantasy book, this kind of nails it. If you’re looking for something fresh and exciting, I wouldn’t recommend it based on this first book in the series. That being said, I might give book 2 a try since I’ve heard a lot of people say to push through to that one and it picks up. It might be worth the time eventually, we’ll see.

Colonizer trash meets beauty and the beast, plot requires main character to have no sense, does not have any actual character development, dubious consent for so so many scenes. Very my first romance novel vibes.

Feyra is not like the other girls, she's special, she's not hot but ever fairy man desires her, she's unable to listen to the most basic instructions, beauty and the beast is about compromise, this is about ignoring your boyfriend is rich because his daddy owned people and having your main character intoxicated and/or enchanted and/or manipulated into every sexual situation then claiming it's love. It's about having zero feelings of guilt when you get other people in trouble or dead and being consistently rewarded.

I have never disliked a text more than this one.

I have heard A LOT about this series and how good it is, and you know what. They were right
I have heard that this series is "overrated" but I don't think its overrated, or underated for that matter. ACOTAR recieves just the right amount of recognition and praise. The lore is interesting, and the characters were interesting, specifically Lucien and Rhys, those guys get my kudos.
I will admit, this series would have been a 5 star if it wasn't for one thing, and the reason is because some parts of the book were very...very...VERY slow, and in some parts I zoned out, but overall, I wasn't dreading on reading such a long book and enjoyed my read.

Okay, so when I first read this novel (I was like 12, okay?) I hated it with a passion .
Thinking back it’s somehow a bit funny, but little me was not having it.
Now I reread it and honestly, it was actually pretty good, maybe a bit overrated.
Easy to read and adventurous.
Ofc I was sometimes a bit annoyed by Feyre being told not to do something because it is very dangerous and doing exactly that 10 minutes later, but hey …. I was more annoyed by Tam.
And I know that my annoyance will only increase in the second book. :)

Btw, if you have read the book or don’t want to read it but are curious about the plot:
I recommend watching A court of thorns and roses | animated summary by TheCookieRhino on YouTube. It’s funny and sums up the thoughts I had while rereading it pretty well

Tamlin is Howl from Howl’s moving castle. I feel like this is gonna turn in to a love triangle and that’s rough because a. Tamlin is great, he’s a protector and believes in her and supports her and I like him a lot. And b. I’m monogamous and do not support cheating in anyway and for this to become a love triangle with Rhys something sad would have to happen.

Rhys is great too, and I like enemies to lovers tropes so them together would probably be more interesting. If she chooses him won’t the love of this book be for naught? She does everything out of love for Tamlin.

3.75/5 Story
5/5 Audiobook (GraphicAudio dramatized adaption)

The audiobook definitely made my reading experience much more enjoyable than if I were to only read ACOTAR. It truly felt like I was watching a movie in my mind - full cast narration, background music/ambience, and sound effects. I binged the entire book in two sittings.

The story itself was still good, but I don't think I would have read it so quickly without the dramatized audiobook. The first half of the story was slow - we spend a lot of time with just Feyre, Tamlin, and Lucien - but I liked getting to know the trio, Feyre had chemistry with both characters (one romantic and the other friendly). Feyre was a good balance of helpless human girl and insanely brave underdog.

The pacing picks up at the 50% mark and the vibes of the story flip - there's more action and higher stakes in the second half of the book. I found some parts to be cheesy and more fairytale than high fantasy novel. I really liked every character except Amarantha - they made her out to be a big bad villain but her part in the book was underwhelming.

I can't wait to see how the rest of the series plays out
(and how/if Feyre ends up leaving Tamlin for Rhysand)
