This 4th installment in A Chorus of Dragons took me forever to get through. It felt more like 800 pages than 500 and it makes me wonder what the word count actually is.

While there is no doubt this is the most complex series I’ve read- this has been the hardest of the books to follow. The back and forth narrative featured in other books continues- but with new character POVs. Galen, Talea, Xivan, Kalindra being the most prevalent; while still getting Kihrin, Janel and Teraeth stories mixed in from a current timeline- much of which is happening within the mind another character.

All that said, it was still an interesting story to follow, especially now that we know so much about the world and everyone’s past lives. I wish I had more of the concentration required to have focused on this book and read it in a more timely manner. I feel like it would’ve been easier to follow. If it was the only book I was reading at the time.

I am really not feeling this book. initially, I was intrigued and liked where the book was heading. It is complex and unique. I want to know how it all ends.
But the way we are getting there and that every character has to have so many intimate relationships, well for those of you who like that in your fantasy books, you will love this one. Me, not so much.

3 stars is generous. Probably more of a 2.5 for me.

The series up until book 4 has been interesting, but this book has the same narrative issues Book 2 had. See a flashback, characters spend time reacting to flashback, another flashback. It’s uninteresting and dull at points. Which is a shame since I like a lot of the characters but they aren’t enough to make me want to finish this book.
