"It’s gonna be all right,” he told her, not really believing it, knowing as every adult knows in his secret heart that nothing is really all right, ever. “It’s gonna be all right."

Not my favorite King book, I read this after IT so it was honestly a bit of a let down. I think I also expected more action and not as much of Rainbird and Andy thinking. It’s also annoying that in a book called Firestarter, the firestarter herself barely gets the mic. Not a bad read by any means, but a bit tedious at points.

I enjoyed this, but it didn’t feel like anything new for King or in general. This is one of the better done stories involving kids with powers he has done though.
The shop was doing tests on people with powers. 2 people in college signed up for the money and had a kid. This kid is Charlie. She’s pyro and is extraordinarily powerful at 7. They are trying to hunt her down to kill her and Charlie and her dad are on the run.
I wonder if there’s any connection between the institute, Carrie and Dr. sleep.

This was my first stephen king book and I loved the premise of it. I flew through the first 200 pages, but then hit a wall with it. I just found the pacing to be a little off for me but I’ll definitely try more of his work!

I mean it's a fun classic King thriller, good pacing, accessible and punchy writing but it is hard to excuse King's penchant for sexualizing young girls. I think this 8 yr old was naked 3 different times and he was insistent on characters talking about her beauty. It's creepy. I think modern King is better about this stuff but yikes it's cringey reading back in his catalouge.

I loved reading Firestarter, it was so much fun and had me on the edge of my seat! If you are a fan of Stranger Things you might just enjoy this book. I do have to say I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. It left me with questions that I won't get answers to.
