3 stars - I liked it

Vincent and Wesley’s story was interesting, filled with a lot of wagers, and pretty emotional. Vincent has been a vampire for four years and has been struggling to survive since then. He is homeless and has been sneaking into people's houses to feed. He keeps visiting Wes and it leads to them making a wager and becoming friends.

I enjoyed this story. Vincent was a sweet guy who was just trying to survive without becoming a monster. Wes is a guy trying to get over the unexpected death of his mother and find a job. Wes also is an extensive gambler of wagers. He is constantly making wagers with his best friends Kendall and Vincent. While at first I didn’t mind the wagers, they started to become annoying when he was using them instead of being honest about situations. It also bothered me that Wes wasn’t honest with Vincent about Vitalis-Barron. Speaking of Vitalis-Barron, I don’t like how the situation ended there. I don’t know if this is something that is going to be dealt with in book two but I was very disappointed in the lack of any consequences for them, especially after they went through so much to get dirt on the company. Overall, I did enjoy this but wish Wes had been a bit more mature.

Trigger warnings: death of a parent; grief; panic attacks; homelessness; starvation; discussions of suicide and mental health issues;
