This book had some really great, well written moments, but overall there are definitely some plot holes. The characters are endearing but sooooo stupid at times. If you don't want to be yelling JUST TALK TO EACHOTHER half the time, you'll probably be frustrated. I enjoyed the tender moments and the blossoming relationship though :)

I’m opting not to assign a star rating to this book because I’m unsure if my lukewarm response is due to a general reading slump or the writing itself. One thing I’ll say up front is that I do wish authors would note in the book description that it’s intended to be part of an overall series. I read it thinking it was a standalone book inside the Guides to Dating Vampires universe, which has other standalones—but it’s not, really, because the main conflict arc and justice/resolution apparently plays out over the course of all the books, which I had to go to the author’s website to find out. Unfortunately for whatever reason I’m not compelled enough to read the other books in the series to see that conclusion. In general, though, I thought this was fine and cute; the characters are likeable, the tension felt believable, and the author draws a strong and compelling parallel to Otherness (in this case vampirism) and the gay experience of many unsupported LGBTQIA+ youth.
