There are some weird modern concepts that are included randomly, plus some modern idioms that are distracting in the writing. Still thinking about how the FMC asked the MMC a question about genetics? (How do you both know about that?) I found some of the language to be really uncomfortable talking about other people’s in this world, it reads like colonialist, racist, old anthropological nonsense. Using words like “exotic” and “barbaric” to describe the MMC was very uncomfortable to read. The culture was clearly modeled after island cultures of the South Pacific & Hawaii and was treated as less than by the narration. The FMC’s attitude about their “customs” was also very xenophobic but the book’s sympathy for her views was giving “civilize the savages” vibes. I wanted to like the characters, but the racist tropes made it very difficult.

After I finished the previous book, I immediately ordered the second one. I could not get enough of the story, characters and world that C.L. Wilson created. Upon finally receiving The Sea King there was a bit of fear that my expectations were spun too high before I started, as this book will be told from different characters. Characters who I've met, but did not spend a lot of time with. Would I therefore enjoy it as much?

I did not need to be hesitant. The Sea King was once again a more than enjoyable read that delves deeper in to the vivid and entertaining world that this author lets us discover. Of course we meet our beloved characters from the first book, but there's also plenty of time to get to know and fall in love with our seemingly sweet Gabriella, aka Summer and the dashing Sea Lord Dilys. Then there’s the story that only get’s better with each page you turn and as a cherry on top we have the romance that sprouts between our two MC’s.

Meaningless to say this book, this series, has once again got me hooked and would not let me go till long after I finished. I obviously can’t wait to read the next book, The Jaguar King. The name alone has me as an avid shifter lover giddy on the inside. I so hope it will be published soon!

Yeah I read the second one and you’d do it too if you like sea king dick. 1st is superior tho, giving sophomore slump.

I really think that this book should’ve included a ⚠️trigger warning⚠️ at the beginning.

Slow in the beginning and middle but really picks up 75% through and you can’t put it down
