Hannah’s fiancée died in front of her on the same trip they got engaged on, and she shut down. Now her old friends are bringing her to a healing retreat to attempt to get their friend back, and reconnect with themselves. But when a local legend seems to be more real than imagined, who will be safe?

Each twist had me changing my mind on who was the big bad, and I didn’t start to catch on until very close to the end. I found this very entertaining and recommend it to fans of horror and whodunnit.

I did not see that end coming, this is my first horror book
I expected to feel really scared but I didnt, so maybe this is my sign to read more horror

I enjoyed this story, and this touched on grief and healing and how much grief if left untreated can bleed into our daily lives and upend it.

I am not really a yoga person but I love its representation with healing.

I loved the writing style but it was a slow read. I expected it to be more fast paced being that it was a horror book

I will highly recommend this book to someone started off there horror book journey

Picture this, you just got out of school for the weekend. You’re on your way to Blockbuster (rip) to pick up a slasher movie and some candy, and you’re having a sleeping over with your friends. This is what the book exudes.

This is just straight camp. You know it’s not an A+ thriller or slasher, but it’s fun. That’s the whole point. You’re not rooting for any of these characters, and it’s fun to see how they get murdered in a way relevant to them.

Reading the author’s note, you can see the care and respect he pays towards the genre. He wanted it to be fun, have those twists, and make you feel like you’re watching a vhs horror tape. Let me tell you that’s exactly what you are going to get. Go in with low expectations and have fun.

I picked this one up based on the cover.

A campy slasher set in a secluded healing retreat in Joshua Tree.

It is very reminiscent of the works it takes inspiration from, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The ending felt kind of rushed and was a bit of a miss for me. All in all, it is a fast paced, easy read.

I also almost thought Tess was going to have a Dear Sister SNL skit moment at the end.

If you are looking for a light slasher gore fiction, this is for you. The story is about Hannah, who is still reeling from the unexpected death of her boyfriend/fiance and was invited to go on a wellness Yoga retreat by her friends and things starts to happen there.

It's difficult for me to warmed up to the main character. I see her as a selfish, mopey and not a 'bright' person which makes it difficult for me to follow through the storyline and root for her character. Most of the characters are just superficial characters that you normally see in slasher films and I'm only find myself cheering for Tess
who seems to embody a better final girl persona compared to Hannah.

The ending was what saves the book. Near the penultimate chapter, I almost thought that the book was going to end in that twist that was not believable at the least but thank god it doesn't end in that kind of cheap writing.

Not the worst slasher I've read, but pretty bland nonetheless. The characters are very stereotypical and bordering on caricatures with barely anything to make them interesting; Hannah is not a very engaging main character, and she has major personality shifts throughout the story without anything in the writing justifying/explaining her perspectives; the desert setting feels underutilized; the singular Native character feels pretty tokenized and lacking the depth the story IS aiming for with her inclusion; the plot feels like it's just meandering along most of the time. The kills are vivid and really the saving grace of the story but everything around it is just... boring. There's three distinct plotlines and I don't think there's a point where any of them really merge naturally and feel cohesive; the ending wasn't that predictable, which could've been a good thing, but it's moreso because I don't feel like there was enough subtext in the story to make it make sense. Maybe this is a story that'd play out better on screen, but as a book, it's just not for me.

This is a solid summer slasher. The horror elements were well done. I didn’t find it very original and found the characters annoying but it kept me turning the page and had some interesting twists at the end.
