In the category of wild back stories, this pantheon is giving the Greek Olympians a run for their money.
Ancient gods are not known for their decorum, so I can't really blame the 'stereotypical juvenile dick/fart joke' type humour entirely on the author. He does manage to make some dizzying lore into a cohesive multi-chapter tale, and the somewhat sentimental ending worked for me.
It's silly and colourful and possibly educational(?). Really, really not for younger audiences.

Funny memorable way to remember Egyptian deities. I've read Egyptian myths and I was still getting the gods' names confused - until this (somewhat vulgar) graphic novel got them to stick in my memory better.

A delightful & startling coherent retelling of some of the major points of Egyptian mythology (with plenty of side eye & scandal, like you do) with lovely cartoon-y illustrations. You know when you're a kid & you get way way way too obsessed with a particular (usually gross) topic? Ancient Egypt was my obsession, well mummies were at least & it kinda spiraled out from there. I would have absolutely, positively loved this book as a child. I distinctly remember being really bummed that I couldn't find a simple mythology for Egypt at my local library & this would have filled my needs so well (I mean, it's not exactly kids appropes, lots of wieners, but I would have happily read it). Reading it as an adult was wonderful, but I guess I wanted a little more (it's maybe a 4-4.5 star for me, but I figured I'd not punish the book for not living up to my ephemeral nostalgia desires) depth either in the story itself or in little nonfiction-y asides. Any who, it's a great book & I highly recommend it for fans of mythology, goofy comics, and all things ancient Egypt!

This is definitely not for kids, but I really enjoyed this romp through Egyptian mythology. No idea how true to the actual myths it was, but it probably doesn’t matter. It even came to a pretty satisfying and almost reverent conclusion, which honestly came as a surprise. Lots of potty humor and dick jokes. Still, fun stuff, and all done in a really matchingly fun cartoony art style.

This was so funny and entertaining. Probably the most vulgar mythology retelling I’ve ever read 😂 it was right up my alley.
