Although generally enjoyable, with some fast-paced and exciting moments, Mr. Lawhead has a tendency at times to add too much "fluff", which IMHO, contributes little, or even nothing to the overall story. I noted this mostly in the last two books of the series, and feel with more judicious editing, the series could have been more solid. Ultimately, it could have been reduced to three books, (four at the most), and would have been more consistently interesting, with many less uninspiring moments. Mr. Lawhead is obviously a very intelligent and educated man, as this is very evident in his discussions of topics such as Quantum Entanglement and the Multiverse. My only suggestion to his writing is that he strive to be more concise and eliminate unnecessary expositional threads. 3.5 stars.

Maybe I waited too long between books. I forgot who some of the characters were. I really enjoyed parts of it and then other parts I powered through.

While it's not my favorite in the series, I found it overall a solid and satisfying conclusion to an enjoyable trilogy. Full review at http://kinynchronicles.blogspot.com/2014/12/in-which-i-review-novel-fatal-tree-by.html

I think I would have enjoyed this more had I taken the time to re-read the four books leading up to it. As it stands, it's been about two years since I read [b:The Shadow Lamp|17283404|The Shadow Lamp (Bright Empires, #4)|Stephen R. Lawhead|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1364230881s/17283404.jpg|23900997]. It felt more like I was jumping into the end of a movie.

I will re-read all of these in one go at some point in the future.

Well like most Lawhead series, this was a fun romp. I loved the characters. The story was well plotted, well researched, and well written. And I recommend any Lawhead fan to read this series.

However, this is not my favorite of Lawhead’s work. There’s a little more X position in this series than what I think is necessary. It seems to have elongated it somehow. Also, while I understand that Thomas Nelson is a Christian publishing house, (and I also am of the Christian faith) I did feel that there was a little bit too much of a stretch with religious themes/symbolism. I have no problem with this. However it seemed a bit of a reach at times. I appreciate the way that Lawhead makes his religious themes much more subversive and subtle in his other works (in my opinion that makes it even more powerful).

There are some plot holes related to some of the quantum physics stuff. The ending leaves more unaccounted for than I would have liked (but that’s the choice of the storyteller and I respect that.

If you’re a Lawhead fan read all five of these books. They’re a lot of fun. If you’ve never read any of Lawhead’s work before, I recommend starting somewhere else. (My favorite by him is Byzantium. I highly recommend this as a Lawhead primer).

He’s a great writer. All in all this was an entertaining story about people I cared about.

Not my favorite of the series, but wrapped it all up fairly well. It seemed short compared to the amount of time invested in figuring out the time travel and all the characters and how everything interwove.

I went through this series mostly via audio. The narration is superb. This was an enjoyable series for beach blanket or car riding reading so to speak. I am a fan of Lawhead's writing and this series was interesting and different.
